SHA evacuating Ile-a-la Crosse long-term care
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is working closely with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and community partners to immediately and safely evacuate 17* long-term care residents and hospital patients from St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Centre Ile-a la-Crosse as a pre-emptive action due air quality concerns and to risks to road access due to wildfires.
Patient and/or resident transfer plans have been developed by the SHA, identifying where individuals will be transferred based on individual care needs and the capacity of the receiving health care facilities in Meadow Lake and Wilkie.
At this time, St. Joseph’s Hospital remains open for anyone who requires emergency care.
“We have made the decision to ensure the safety of the residents and reduce the potential risks if a community evacuation is required,” said Julia Pemberton, Vice-President Integrated Northern Health. “We are grateful for the compassion and collaboration of our staff, physicians and first responders as they work together to care for those affected.”
The SHA is committed to continued support of those affected by the wildfire situation, and those mobilizing to respond to this difficult situation.
