Description
- Fluid other than pleural fluid for lactate must be cleared by the biochemist on call

Specimen collection container
- Preferred collection container: Dark Green (Lithium Heparin no gel)
- Alternative collection container: Low dose balanced heparin syringe
Collection procedure
- Prechill tube
- Send all samples to lab on ice
Required volume
- Optimal volume:
- 6.0 mL full collection tube
- 3.0 mL full low dose balanced heparin syringe
- Minimum volume: 1.0 mL
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)
