Career change very rewarding for Anesthesia Assistant
After years of experience as a respiratory therapist, Candi Thompson was ready for a new challenge as an anesthesia assistant (AA).
“I was ready for a change and thought the additional schooling and responsibility would be challenging and rewarding. I love the variety of workplaces and patients my role as an AA provides,” said Candi.
Candi works at all four hospitals in Saskatoon. Her role is mainly in the operating room as part of the anesthesia team, although AAs can work in a number of different areas where anesthetic is provided within a hospital setting.
“My role provides an expert set of hands that ‘speak the same language’ as the anesthesiologist. Every day is a different experience that allows me to use my education and experience to its fullest potential.”
Candi is one member of SHA staff who exemplifies the SHA’s CARES values of compassion, accountability, respect, equity, and safety every day through the care she provides to her patients and the support she gives her team. Thank you, Candi, for all you do.
